Indigenous Peoples on the road of Kathmandu shows its determination to fights for Indigenous Peoples rights

On 9th August, Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) organised a rally to mark the international day of World’s Indigenous Peoples Day. The rally began from Bhrikuti Mandap and converged into an assembly at Maitighar Mandala. Various indigenous peoples organisations and indigenous communities came out with their banners and play cards. National Indigenous Women Forum (NIWF) along with the Asia-Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) and its Land-Feminist Participatory action Research(FPAR) team showed their solidarity during the rally. Sisters from Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Philippines and Samoa showed their solidarity with indigenous peoples and indigenous women in Nepal. Mainly, APWLD- Land-FPAR team demonstrate their solidarity to Majhi Women from Ramechhap whom were going to adversely affected by the construction Sunkoshi Hydro Power dam. At the same time, APWLD took the opportunity to demonstrate the Women’s Global Strike to mark 8 March as International Women’s day. During the rally they spread the key slogan of Women’s Global Strike- ” If Women Stop, the World’s Stop”.
