Indigneous women from Nepal make effective and substantial participation in the 71st session of Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ms. Suni Lama, Chairperson, Ms. Yasso Kanti Bhattachan, Vice Chairperson, Ms. Krishna Kumari Waiba, Genral Secretary of National Indigenous Women Forum (NIWF), and Ms. Nirmala Bhujel, a board member of NIWF participated in the 71st Session of CEDAW in Geneva held from 22nd October to 26th October 2018.
During the session, Ms. Yasso Kanti Bhattachan, read the three minute statement and also we shared our issues with CEDAW committee members during lunch briefing session. Altogether seventeen indigenous sisters from the four consortium indigenous organizations had participated in the session. This explicitly shows the strong solidarity among indigenous women in the session. The participation was effective and substantial. The CEDAW committee included fifteen recommendations in relation to indigenous women in the Concluding Observation to the Government of Nepal on the CEDAW Shadow report.
